LINEBERGER BIOINFORMATICS CORE (LBC) provides services for Data Sharing using modern protocols that conform to NIST Standards.
In collaboration with the Office of Genomics Research (OGR), we publish and retrieve data from major genomic repositories including EGA, dbGaP and SRA. These datasets encompass raw sequencing files and associated metadata and may be either public or controlled-access. For controlled-access data, we implement required security measures such as encryption and decryption, while strictly adhering to repository-specific submission, access, and compliance requirements. Across all data transfers, we ensure data integrity through checksum validation when applicable. In addition, we support secure data exchange with collaborators using established data transfer tools such as Globus Connect, SFTP, SCP, rsync, rclone, and cloud provider tools (AWS, GCP).
Our High-Performance Computing (HPC cluster) environment can fully meet with the cybersecurity controls outlined in NIST Special Publication 800-171, “Protecting Controlled Unclassified Information in Nonfederal Systems and Organizations,” as required by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for handling controlled-access genomic datasets, including those from dbGaP. This ensures robust protection of sensitive data through measures such as access controls, audit and accountability, incident response, and system integrity, aligning with NIH’s updated Genomic Data Sharing Policy effective January 25, 2025 (NOT-OD-24-157). Please reach out to us using the Submit Request button for your datasets needing to meet NIST 800-171.
